I think the best time to visit the beach is in winter when the sun is out but not so hot and the tourists are rugged up elsewhere. Then you can walk along the beach with the locals, get a car spot, enjoy the playground and if you are my nine year old son, play chicken with the waves.
Today at Avoca Beach, we searched for shells, drew pictures in the sand, dodged the waves and took in the bluest of seaside skies.
I love the pines along the beach at Avoca. How they stand as sentinels against the sea.
I took in a bit of house stalking, as I am want to do on my beach walks. But since I didn't have my camera with me, just my phone, this photo does not do the house justice.
The winter school holidays are coming to an end and soon we will be back to world of the book, the pen, the karate lessons, the french classes - the busy lives of modern families. One constant is the sound of waves crashing on the beach, children laughing as they make sandcastles and the salty air to remind us we are alive.
